Neatly re-cased with original green cloth boards and spine, with gilt title and image of a crocodile, laid down. Internally very good. Edward Lane (1801-1876) was a noted orientalist, translator of The Thousand and One Nights, and compiler of one of the first Arab-English lexicons. The Manners and Customs was a best seller, written in 1833-5, based on his visits between 1825 and 1828. A good copy of the 3rd, improved edition, with engravings taken from drawings by the author.
